is there something unifies your pan-fandom interests?(

I'm sorry this is short but I'm doing a multiple things and I didn't want to end December (and the year!) without finishing the December Meme!

I had a long think about this and I think one of the things for me to like a show: there should be an interesting female protagonist and while dark things do happen its not a grimdark show.

The relationship that defined your exception in relationships and the relationships you now hope to find in your life

So, I look to the fictional for my ideal romantic relationships namely: Coach and Mrs. Coach from FNL, Marshall and Lily (HIMYM), and Brad and Jane (Happy Endings)

But honestly, I just really like the idea of someone I'm comfortable with to talk to and have fun with and have similar passions but also someone I can have adventures with too.

This is frustratingly short, I'm sorry but I guess romantic relationships aren't really something I think about a lot?

Here's the thing I never expected to like The 100 but my tumblr friends convinced me (fair warning, I've only seen Season 1, since I'm hesitant about season 2 and I want to see everything play out.)

But my favorite character in the show is Clarke Griffin.

headcanon/thoughts on why you think Shaw became a doctor for [tumblr.com profile] thismeansnothingtome

Apologies for this being late, I got turned around with the dates and I'm playing catch up now.

I think, the whole reason why Shaw became a doctor begins in 1993 at the time when as lookninjas pointed out, she was stuck for hours with her (dead) father under the car. I've always thought that while young Sameen might not have shown she was affected by her father's death, I feel like its an event that marked her.

From: [livejournal.com profile] redbrunja Joss Carter's Death: HORRIBLE WRITING DECISION or well executed/meaningful. Talk about the two sides of the issue and what's your call?

This is a thorny issue, with, I think no easy answer.

Full disclosure: I was among one of the vocal people who was against Carter dying and I've even considered quitting the show if not my love for Sarah Shahi's Shaw. But looking at the story from start to what we have now, in the grand scale of the story and leading up to and the effects of Carter's death I think it worked in the long run.

BUT since the show doesn't exist in a vaccum there are many things to consider,Read more... )

They will probably be brief, or not, depending on the subject. Also, I reserve the right to decline prompts that I don’t feel equipped to meet.

Topics: you can get an idea from my tags/from the stuff I usually ramble about/from things you maybe wish I talked about more but don’t.

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things so I'm going to attempt the fanfic meme even though I've only finished a total of, like five fics.

30 Days of Fanfic Meme

Day 1 – How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

The first fanfic I ever wrote without ever knowing it was fanfic was… a Dragonball Z/Superman crossover and Zenki. I didn't even know how those two started except a friend and I started talking about stories and collaborating and we had this notebook where we took turns writing one chapter each week. We never finished it looking back now it's just very, very cracktastic and filled with action scenes and emo. OMG. The emo.

As for Fandom in general, it really did start when I discovered the internet and realized there were other people out there interested in the same thing! It was a revelation! My interests was shared by more than two people! And they talked about it! Constantly! There were websites and forums dedicated to talking about fandom!

I remember being up all night just reading about what people thought and being intimidated in joining in but also thinking: 'I'm not alone!'.

I started out (by that I mean lurking) in anime fandom, I remember consuming a LOT of Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2/Sailor Moon crossovers. I was fortunate enough to stumble into really quality fanfics. Really quality, epic fanfics. Its one thing I miss about anime fandom they really have epic length fics. There are fewer epic length fics these days. From Ranma, Sailor Moon I moved to Rayearth and Slayers (where I stumbled into a really fantastic epic Original Flavor trilogy by Stefan 'Twoflower' Gagne). I just kept leaping of series after series.

But it was really the Buffy fandom that got me into fandom and I guess from there I just never really left.

Stealing a few minutes away from work to post this meme:

1. I write down a list of 10 characters.

2. You choose however many of those you like and ask me a question about them. Examples: "What happens when 5 and 9 are forced to take care of a baby?" or "1, 4, and 8 walk into a bar. What happens next?" or "What does 3 do when s/he finds out that 10 is pregnant with 7's child?" You get the idea. :D

3. I tell you about these scenarios!

Entertaaaaaaain me!
grimorie: (Fringe: this is the lead-in)
A few days ago I offered to rec a few episodes to help [livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye get into Fringe and I thought I'd share my little handy guide!

There are three things I tell my friends whenever I rec Fringe:

1. Fringe is about Olivia Dunham. I mean, yes, there are Walter (who makes the other half of the show for me), Peter, Astrid, Nina Sharp and Broyles but mostly, it's about Olivia Dunham and her BAMF self.

Olivia is kickass, stoic, sensible (in dress and manner), team leader. In every sense of the word, she's the one who has the insights and the person who moves the action and as we later find, she's at the very center of the ongoing conspiracy.

2. Don't watch the second episode of season 1. Just don't.

3. It took a while for Fringe to find its legs but once it did..! Oh, boooy. /Sam Beckett.

There's something for every sci-fi fan out there (except, I advise you not to think about the science. The skience will only leave you with a headache the size of Manhattan!)

Addendum: Don't watch episode 2 of season 1. I'm really serious about this one.

Two things:

1. Lance Reddick in glasses!!!Elevent-y one! And so very different from Broyles (or Lt. Daniels!).

2. He's a fan of Star Trek: Voyager! *g* He is One of Us!

There's also an interview of Anna Torv and she mentions William Gibson! Hee. I love that the cast are such geeks! Most of all, I love how she's defending alt!Olivia. It's true, alt!Olivia isn't evil! She's just operating under the assumption that the other universe is evil!

Castle! I'm watching again! Sort of. This show fell off my radar, one the many casualties while I was mourning Life. I'm watching the show through my local cable and sporadically at that... I think I will be mainlining soon.

The second episode I watched was Tick, Tick, Tick and OMG! What an episode to (sort-of) start with! I forgot how fun this show was! Also, Dana Delany is an awesome guest star!

Because [personal profile] aj gave me this.

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. (If you absolutely can't write, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to offer drawings or icons or something instead.)

Your result for Which fantasy writer are you?...

Philip Pullman (b.1946)

1 High-Brow, -1 Violent, 3 Experimental and 3 Cynical!

Congratulations! You are High-Brow, Peaceful, Experimental and Cynical! These concepts are defined below.

Philip Pullman was already a prominent author of children's books when he published his most praised work to date, the trilogy known as His Dark Materials (1995-2000). In this work, set both in parallel worlds and our own, Pullman made a courageous attempt to write a book for young readers which incorporated a whole vision of the universe, as well as a discussion of ethical issues. He managed to combine this with a burst of thought-provoking and entertaining imagination, bringing to life a Europe where the church is still in control, "souls" that have been externalised as animal presences, intelligent, sentient polar bears and much more. The series have been described as a sort of "anti-Narnia", as Pullman's attempt to write an updated variant of the kind of books C S Lewis, whom Pullman has criticized for having racist, misogynic and preaching tendencies, wanted to write. His Dark Materials has also spawned some controversy among Christians, who see the the work as an attack against Christianity, Pullman being one of Britain's most outspoken atheists. Other Christians have, however, claimed to have found spirituality in the books.

Either way, Pullman's combination of renewal and expansion of the genre, his profound messages on the value of life and his refusal to under-estimate his young readers' ability to see life as it is makes Pullman one of the most interesting and important writers of modern fantasy.

You are also a lot like Tove Jansson.

If you want something some action, try Gene Wolfe.

If you'd like a challenge, try your exact opposite, J R R Tolkien.

I... am? Rly? I disliked the last book of the Golden Compass trilogy and its tainted the first two books for me plus all his other works. I have to think on this.

A new-to-me anime I just started watching is the Legend of Basara. Someone recommended the series to me a while back and I'm glad I found it. The premise seems interesting: set in post-apocalyptic Japan where Japan is ruled over by a tyrannical king. The king divided up Japan among his four sons, the fourth and youngest was sent to the desert where he became known as the ruthless Red King.

The one thing that gives populace hope is the prophecy about the Children of Destiny. A set of fraternal twins were born and on that day, the blind prophet Nagi declared Tatara, the boy, as the child of destiny.

Sasara, Tatara's twin sister has to live in her brother's shadow from that moment on. Fortunately, her Tatara isn't a spoiled brat but he actually seems like a nice kid. But throughout her childhood Sasara wonders what her purpose in life is other than Tatara's twin.

I'm watching [profile] chasarumba's fantastic Casino Royale vid, Skin on repeat. I can't believe how she could pack a whole movie in just three minutes! Skin is such a beautiful synchronization of source and music and just... the cuts and the effects. It's simply breathtaking.

Moar interviews, this time from [personal profile] angstbunny:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."

2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on ...
