The Mentalist 2x01 - 2x08

I finally returned to The Mentalist, thanks to [personal profile] mswyrr's episode guide!

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but I really liked Sam Bosco, he was an interesting contrast to Jane and even to Lisbon. I wasn't too fond of the kids attitude toward Bosco though but I guess that's a given.

When Bosco placed his arm on Jane's shoulder then said, point blank he was a victim, I had jolt and it seemed like Jane was reeling. I don't think anyone has said that to him for a long time, people have been tip toeing around that label. I even think, and wouldn't put it past him, if he encouraged that feeling and Bosco calling him 'victim' caught him unprepared. He worked so hard for people to forget that fact and people have started to forget except Bosco.

I also liked Bosco's history with Lisbon and the obvious care and respect they had for each other despite differences in opinion. Unlike Van Pelt and Rigsby nothing came out of their mutual feelings, it was very chaste and I loved the quiet way Bosco tried to convey it to Lisbon during Red Badge.

Apparently, I am a sucker for doomed, quiet love.:)

I really loved the Lisbon-centric episode! More Lisbon please! Cho also continues to rule! I love his deadpan way of saying things. Van Pelt is also very win with her little laptop! Rigsby is Rigsby and that's just fine:).

Sometime around the last time I saw Jane, I think I've become less fond of Jane and his antics. I was glad in the first episode of the season Lisbon finally laid down the law to Jane but I wasn't so fond with Rigsby going: 'We can't do this without Jane!'

Of course you can! You're trained professionals! Lisbon is a rockstar! You can close cases without Jane!

Episode 8 was fantastic and Jane shutting down when the secretary revealed why he had Bosco and his unit killed was really intense. This also really showed how obsessed he is with the Red John case he really doesn't care who he hurts to get to Red John.

I'm ashamed to admit I had an inappropriate reaction when the secretary shut down Jane's attempts to play her. I was actually glad that Jane's tricks doesn't always work with everyone but then it also went swinging back to sympathy after seeing his face in shadow. It makes me wonder what Criminal Minds BAU would think of Jane, after all, what Jane is doing is basically profiling but with more theatricality.

I don't think this show will ever be my favorite but I like it and the Bosco arc was fantastic and interesting as it tied into the larger Red John mystery.

Simon Baker remains very pretty! Tim Kang can do wonderful things by being so deadpan! And Lisbon wears practical sports bra! Just like Fringe's Olivia Dunham! So I shall continue watching!
