Once Upon A Time 1x04 - Price of Gold

I had a hard time with this episode. It didn't help when they killed Cinderella's fairy godmother.

Also, I can't help compare Ashley to Danielle de Barbarac's Cinderella. Ever After: A Cinderella Story is my Cinderella story.

It seems I ship girls who conk their princes on the head. Also, she carried Henry on her back and saved him from the bandits!

I was really bothered by killing the Fairy Godmother too. I really felt like it took a turn to the let's kill everyone of colour trope and did not like it at all. (I still don't like Gold's name, either). I've wanted the show to fix this and was thrilled when I saw the fairy godmother and was PISSED when she was dead.

I thought it, overall, an OK take on Cinderella, though it wasn't really Cinderella, you know? Like you, Ever After is my favorite.

It could have been any fairy tale princess who makes an unfortunate deal. I was glad that we saw something of Emma's real world smarts coming in -- I was having to suspend my disbelief a long way to really believe that Ashley losing her baby was a real peril. I liked Emma essentially calling Gold's bluff -- that his deal wasn't enforceable. I did not really see though why she needed to make the deal with him at all. I know we are supposed to be thinking of how she puts herself in Ashley's place and worries that a baby caught in the 'system' would be treated as she had been. I liked the tension between them, but didn't really buy the premise, I guess?
