[initial reactions] Black Panther
I saw this a few days ago, but I wanted to rewatch in a cinema with better screen* before I say anything... But I didn’t have time to rewatch it, so I just wanted to say how much I LOVED the movie!
It was amazing and so rich, and I love the women! I love Shuri (she is precious and must be protected!), Okoye (another general of my heart!), and Nakia (A SPY WHO I LOVE SO MUCH. AND Y’ALL KNOW I LOVE SPIES! ALSO I HAVE THOUGHTS HOW MY FAVES T’CHALLA, DIANA HAVE SPIES AS PEOPLE THEY LOVE ROMANTICALLY).
Also, I have a lot of thoughts about Nakia being a spy, choosing to be a spy, and her reticence to being in a uniform. And, the way she chose to help people in need.
I love T’challa’s respect and love for all the women in his life, and the way he grew to understand that living up to his father isn’t what he must do, but to become better than his father and the kings before him. Opening up Wakanda will also bring different challenges but ultimately, I think it’s a good thing. They can’t keep isolating themselves to the detriment of the world they live in, and I love that T’Challa learned that.
I also love all the worldbuilding about Wakanda, it’s culture and how lived in Wakanda feels.
I love that Michael B Jordan is getting the recognition he deserves too! I loved him since Friday Night Lights, although I knew him first from The Wire. This is such an amazing movie, and I would pay to watch that 4 hour cut! I hope they release a special edition with the 4 hour cut!
*(seriously, the screen was so bad-- colors were so washed out, all the vibrant colors were lost and half of the time I was fighting against low level annoyance at how bad the cinema screen was!).

But yes, hooray to basically everything about the movie. It was awesome. I was cheering at Winston Duke as M'Baku in particular, since he's one of several black actors that PoI didn't serve well in the writing. He was so charismatic here, and he got to live!
