I hadn't even specifically thought about how recent it's been for her, but yes, just because it's been over a year for the public doesn't mean it's been more than a few days for her.

Also, it's not previously unheard of for the Doctor to have moments of vulnerability. And she's got a real sense of responsibility, so she feels it deeply if it seems she has failed the people she cares about and accidentally brought along.
