Fringe 3x01 - Olivia
FRINGEEEEEEEE! It's baaack! And, okay, it turned out that being spoiled kind of made me not enjoy the episode as much as I want because majority of the scenes I've already seen because of the way I kept hunting down spoilers like a mad thing.
Bad, me!
But I enjoyed it the second time around and I picked up on things that I didn't the first time.
First of all: Henry Higgins! HEEE! Raise your hands if you did an Eliza Doolittle. 'enry 'iggins!
Also: BUBBLES. And he's from Over Here! He's like Olivia! And, yet, he survived and lived. Is there something special about how he came to Over There or... is he special too?
Creepy Walternate remains creepy. Especially what he and the Massive Dynamic guy did to Olivia. I knew Olivia's escape was far too similar to Bound and now I know why. I really don't know how the writers can make Walternate sympathetic when everything he does creeps me out. I would love to see more of alt!Elizabeth though!
I remain unconvinced about Peter's decision to return Over Here when he has his real mother Over There.
Speaking of Over There, the more I see of that place the more I love it!
Olivia's breakdown, hidden behind doors, the only one after the first night, I wager, was heartbreaking but even more so when Olivia thought/realized she could never go home. I think that's when Massive Dynamic guy's experiments started to really work. As more and more of her options were taken away from her, the more desperate Olivia became.
I did love the way the writers brought back Frank showing the effects alt!Olivia's absence is affecting everyone in her life. And Team!ness! I love alt!Fringe team! I LOVE alt!Charlie. And, of course it would be alt!Charlie who finds Olivia.
One thing though, what's this about Olivia not being that good a shot? Of course she is! Who else can do head shots to the driver of a moving van? It's always been in her but she became more honed during the latter part of season 2 when she realized that head shots were the only way to kill shapeshifters. I guess what Olivia meant she didn't used to be a good shot by shooting one handed?
The things that alt!Olivia are excellent at are already things Olivia's good at, she's good at undercover work and a crack shot too. Not Olympic levels yet but if Olivia had time and wasn't taking care of Rachel or kept to herself and (I assume) out of team sports she would have too.
"You convinced me to use yellow--"
"Because it's more cheerful."
I didn't realize how insidious Walter and Bell's experiment on little Olive was until that line. Because yellow was Olivia's favorite color until the Cortexiphan experiments.
But, oh! Dunham!Mom! Of course, the only way to get to Olivia was her mother and it all worked on Olivia and by that point it seemed like a relief to believe because it is so much better than the truth. That her mother was dead, that she was abused when she was a child, that John Scott betrayed her and he died.
(Sidebar: If Dunham!Mom died when Olivia was fourteen, who took care of Olivia and Rachel?)
Now what I want to see is alt!Olivia being affected by Olivia's life and I think that's going to be through Rachel and Ella.
I have more thoughts but I have to run to work. But FRIIIINGE!

ETA: Edited for coherency!
ETA II: aaaand editing because I meant 3x01 and not 2x01!

I do hope she won't stay amnesiac for long, and the guys Over There would realize ASAP too, that their Olivia is not the right one.
And AltCharlie! Charlie! ♥ I'm sure hoping that he would find out the truth about our Olivia, and still be the one to end up helping her.
I share your confuzzlement about the supposed differences between Alt Olivia and Olivia, that's something that bugged me right away too. Like that comment about her not missing the target -- Olivia may not have never won any marksmanship medals or whatever, but she's definitely an excellent shot. Fandom called her the Dunhaminator for a reason!

I don't think it will last long Olivia has had experience dealing with this memory thing before but... I think it will be harder since the memories and thoughts would be so close to her own.
CHARLIE! And, um, I can't help but ship them a little, y'know? It's just. CHARLIE!

Exactly! I wonder where that came from or is that part of the brainwash? Did the Other Side think Olivia isn't a crack shot?
