In the barren wasteland that is Person of Interest _4B _Terra Incognita is the one truly great episode from start to finish. There is nothing about it I would change and it is the last real good John character building episode.
Also, this episode single-handedly turned the fridging of Jessica on its head*. Jessica didn’t die because of John or his decisions. Jessica died because sometimes really bad things do happen and sometimes, no one can’t prevent it.
It was tragic but it was also life.
John was an important part of Jessica’s life but John wasn’t the only thing in her life. Jessica dying was not about John.
Jessica’s death was just part of the downward spiral that was his life at that point. It’s PTSD, and grief, and all the unsuitability he had with his job as the government’s very own gun man.
John did not break up with Jessica for ‘her own good’, he broke up with Jessica so he could be better at his job. He actively chose his job over Jessica and then he told himself its because he broke up with her to protect her. He told himself so often it became the truth he believed. Just like he misremembered about telling Carter about Jessica. He wanted so badly to feel a connection with Joss that he started to believe he opened up to Joss.
And god, it’s so good to see Joss Carter again, even if she was just a guardian ghost helping John. Even as a ghost she’s not willing to let John compromise himself and demands the truth, and to push him, and challenge him. Also to remind him, in what was one of the thematic statements of season 4-- he isn’t alone.
Yes, Joss Carter in the episode is Carter because ghosts exist in POI-verse and no one can convince me otherwise!
God, I miss this show.
(*not in the traditional sense that is).
I also rewatched Skip, and you know what the Harold and Root scene, I’ve come to really like it now because it was so very appropriate and fitting that in order to stop Root from killing, he had to blackmail her.
That’s just so amusingly appropriate!
I wish CBS’s shooting schedule for POI did not conflict with Vikings because I wanted Frankie back in season 5. Heck, I wanted a lot of actors in season 5 but because of the schedule, it was impossible to do.

Even Sarah, fresh off gving birth had to be up in fighting form after only a few months of rest. Also, Michael Emerson was so burned out from the shooting schedules in season 5 he no longer wants to be a lead in any TV show.
I think everyone felt the grind from production crews to the cast, only to have CBS shelve the show for almost (?) a year.
