I spent half my day in Power Books waiting for my ride home (which, btw, did not arrive. Had to commute home-- grrr) not a waste though since there was a new batch of 'graphic novels'on the shelf mostly DC comics titles, between you and me I never really fancied Marvel save for Wolvie. XDDD
Anyways, I finally got to peruse the 'No Man's Land' saga of the Batman title and I must say-- blown. away.
Totally turned Gotham dynamics upside down.
I've always loved Batman: Dark, broody, smart and complex, what's not to love? I mean, any man who could stare down Superman is a winner in my book.
Main reason I never got into Birds of Pray: TV series was because of Bruce Wayne's abrupt departure, there is no way in hell the Batman I know would leave Gotham for anything. It's his city, even Superman recognizes the Bat's sovereignity over Gotham.
And 'No Man's Land' proved exactly why it did. Batman brought mobilized all his protegees to help him win back Gotham after the earthquake that brought about the anarchy. Each of his students: Robin, Nightwing, Oracle and his ally Azrael and the new Batgirl were able to hold their ground and establish territory.
In the final installments Batman came head to head against Lex Luthor and won, warning Luthor of with: 'This is my city. Gotham is not for sale.' Or something to that effect.
Did I mention how much I love the new Batgirl? Out of all his students I think it is only Batgirl he most identifies with and sees as his reflection. She's like the daughter Batman never had.
Okay, I'm rambling. Hehe, Batman has that effect on me!:)
