I decided to re-watch ‘Find Your Happy Place’ 2x01 again and then I decided to read the Sides for the casting call in the episode and boy did I not expect how angry I feel re-reading what we could have gotten and the story we got.

Life Season 2 -- We could have had it allllll )

Okay, I finally, finally made it to Life's Season 1 season finale and its still so beautiful as the day I first saw it.

The way it plays so beautifully with the dynamic between *all* of Charlie’s partners.

Her partner said he needed her, and that's all she needed. )

Now that I've finished my Shaw vid (in the bullpen - there's a china doll in the bullpen). I can go back to writing!

BTW the Shaw vid was something in the months in the making and it was such a relief to finish it but I kept fiddling and fiddling with it until I said last night either I upload it now or it'll never get done. So I did and that was a relief.

Although I think I might remaster the vid once I get my hands on a higher quality source. Its too dark right now for my tastes.

Further commentary: I had such a resistance at Shaw being called a hammer by Harold because just looking at Reese as he is and his methods there is nothing subtle or surgical about his methods.

But then I read the thoughts of fellow fans here and I began to rethink it and I did end up liking the Shaw as a Hammer analogy because often times women operators are thought of as surgical, delicate etc., but Shaw for all her height is the heavy hitter. And I tried to show it as much as I could in the vid.

I also included Shaw the connections she made over the course of the season how she is the hammer in the bullpen but its not all of her, that these are the people she's come to think of as important to her.

I might do a vid commentary at a later date.

Now to writing notes: Elementary/Person of Interest fic seems to be plugging along nicely.

I'm really excited to write Root and Moriarty interacting. I think its going to be interesting since they might be similar but I don't think they'd spark well with each other precisely because they are too similar. And they'd be like two cats being remarkably territorial against one another.

I think for the majority of this story I might place the POV on the Elementary side of things, outside looking into the world our characters of Person of Interest live in. I don't think its a world Sherlock and Joan would like to live in, tbh.

moving on to a different Life/Person of interest plot bunny )

A few days ago I wrote something about how nothing can ever replace Life as my one true show, then I thought, maybe I can put that bed to rest and move on since I finally had Sarah Shahi playing another character I've come to love fiercely.
But then I queued up 'Children's Work' by LithiumDoll a Life fan vid, and my love for this show came rushing back in a tide.

Title of vid: Children's Work
Recipient: SDWolfpup
Vidder: LithiumDoll
Fandom: Life
Music: "Children's Work" by Dessa
Summary: children aren't as simple as we'd like to think
Content notes: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills)
Length: 03:11

I love Sam Shaw now but the genesis of that devotion started with Dani Reese. It started from that little show. There's an article that's circulating about why some shows succeed in fandom, and IMO the bulk of why a person starts to get invested in the show is because of the characters. The show doesn't have to be good to have a cult following but it does need compelling characters with rich inner lives.
Characters you can't help but imagine have lives beyond what we're being shown, and even more, complex and layered relationships.

TLDR. Children's Work really brought back a LOT of feels for Life, and I don't think I'll ever, ever be able to let this show go.

I promised this a long time ago and it's been sitting on my hard drive for a while, not a complete list. I've realized I have a sucky tagging system so now most of my fic recs are, uh, misplaced. But here, have some I've managed to scrounge together.

This is a work-in-progress.

Watching The Mentalist has made me really nostalgic for Life and I've been watching Life season 1 and it is a fantastic as I remember it being. This show ♥

I'm once again struck how hopeful this show is. So many bad and tragic things happened to Crews and Reese and even to the people around them but still it remains so hopeful in the face of all the tragedy.

And really, that is the heart of the whole series it's not about the quirky crime scenes and this is why most of the season 2 episodes didn't work for me. I loved it when the show made an effort to look real, I loved the police station set because it felt real. Season 2 police station had a sort of... glossy feel to it. The show really worked for me when everything was grounded and not so fantastic.

I will always love the showrunner for giving us an ending that felt emotionally right for the series but I can't forget what a mess the Conspiracy turned out to be especially when Rand & Co., made the Conspiracy so convuluted just because they were holding on to their cards and hoping for a third season.

Wherein I discuss Life the Series and the Conspiracy. )

Back to The Mentalist... I really am over Patrick Jane. In the realm of quirky partners with kickass cop partners. Jane ranks fifth in likability factor for me, he is sunshine and curls but he is also very much a bastard just the way he handles interviews with mourning people turns me off. Patrick Jane can do anything he wants and he'll still win the day without any repurcussions but brief slaps to the wrists and I feel like he has such contempt for people (save for a few around him... and sometimes, not even then) that it's hard for me to relate to his Manpain.

On the other hand, there's Richard Castle who is kind of a bastard too but who has such genuine joy and respect for the women around him that I can't really hold a grudge against him.

I'll try to keep watching The Mentalist but if I don't see any real consequences to his actions I don't think I can stick around to watch the Patrick Jane show despite how much I adore Lisbon and Cho.

I haven't seen a whole episode of Glee since the pilot, I've only looked at the Music Vids but I've now seen some season 2 episodes and came away with this impressions:

a) Except for Mike Chang, John Stamos' character and New Blond Kid I want to punch almost all the male characters in the show particularly Will and Finn.

b) I really like the idea of Rachel and Kurt as buddies.

c) I like Quinn, I love Santana's snark and wish that Mercedes and Santana really do become Top Bitches of the School.

d) Wow. Heather Morris is a fantastic dancer!

e) Yep, I still want to punch Will.

Man, I am absolutely falling behind answering comments! Don't worry I shall answer immediately! But, first! I just need to share this fantastic Life vid. I feel like Al Pacino in The Godfather.

I thought I was out but they just keep pulling me back in!

You've Got the Love by [livejournal.com profile] tsukihysteria

Send love and feedback here!

I've watched this vid again and again and again and it's so fantastic! It really reminded me how much I love this show, how I love these two partners so much. Crews and Reese are so comfortable with each other and it never once felt forced. There's this easiness and calm whenever they're together and I hadn't realized how important proximity is for them. And the times when they do touch it's always been significant.

And the handgraze! The handgraze will never not be squee inducing!

This vid also reminded me how much Crews likes to look at Reese. It's not creepy and it doesn't even have to do with her looks. It took up to the second episode for Crews to realize that, yes, his partner is beautiful -- I mean, I know he saw her and thought, 'My partner is good looking' but it was like an abstract concept to him because Crews saw Reese as his partner first. It was only when one of the people they were interviewing mentioned she was pretty that Crews looked at Reese and kind of thought: 'Huh. Reese is pretty.'

From then on it was like he grew into the habit of looking at her. He likes watching her reactions and almost every time whenever he looks at Reese there's always a look of wonder and amazement in his eyes.

Although, I maintain despite the way the series ended I don't think they'll get together immediately. At the same time it isn't because of a 'will they or won't they' but more of... getting to that place where they could be together. It's not about being coy. It's just that they'll be okay just being together and close together.

*sigh* Really, these two. *smushes them* I love them so much!

I'm watching [profile] chasarumba's fantastic Casino Royale vid, Skin on repeat. I can't believe how she could pack a whole movie in just three minutes! Skin is such a beautiful synchronization of source and music and just... the cuts and the effects. It's simply breathtaking.

Moar interviews, this time from [personal profile] angstbunny:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."

2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on ...

I think I've figured out why I haven't caught up with The Mentalist yet. I think its because I'm subconsciously resentful that The Mentalist got a strong viewership and became such an instant success while Life was not renewed.

Its not The Mentalist's fault, in fact I do like it. Also, Simon Baker is pretty so plus points there but... *sigh* there's this part of me where I'm feeling resentful The Mentalist got it so easy while my show struggled.

Although, I don't know why I seem to have an easier time with Castle.

Burn Notice the USA summer show, now that Life's been gutted I'm really embracing Burn Notice, not that I haven't before. Last season was a game changer for Burn Notice, Michael finally met with the people who burned him and jumped off a helicopter to tell them what he thought of their offer.

Instead of looking for the people who burned him and the reasons why, Michael is going to have his hands full fending off his old enemies. Alan Sepinwall has a very interesting interview with Matt Nix, the creator of Burn Notice here

Just came from the company outing, we were in Batangas so four hour's travel, both ways and I am so tired and drained. But I went out kayaking which was fun and flying fox, I don't know the technical term for it but basically they strap you into a harness then connect it to the wire and push you off the highest tree and you scream your lungs out.

Fun!

Unfortunately, besides the massage, that's all what that place had to offer and all I really wanted to do was go home.

[livejournal.com profile] pers_pineapple has another newsletter up, yay for our little fandom that could!

Summary: What kind of people would revere somebody like you?
Charlie Crews. Dani Reese. Kyle Hollis.

This fic. This fic! I already miss the show lots, and I mean lots but this story, has sharpened my longing for the show. Charlie and Dani interrogates Kyle and the tension, the things unsaid and the things that will be said and the things to come... It's so pitch perfect I can see how this might happen, could happen. It makes me ache for Life to return now, to see this on screen and hear the words said and gah... I love this story a lot because it captures everythring: the rhythm and language of Reese and Crews investigative partnership, the fierce loyalty, the quests and Kyle, the center of the storm. Calm then fearful and... and so many things.

I've downloaded the story to my PDA and read it over and over to and from Batangas and it still leaves me with the same emotional punch, the same breathless feeling and longing.

I want to gush about this story more but I'll save it for later. I still can't believe how good my little show is.

This is entirely gratuitous and senseless but here goes: I am fascinated with Charlie's long legs. I'm also fascinated by the way he enters and exits cars. He's so tall he has to bend to enter a car. And the way he does it is so interesting to watch.

My, Detective, what long legs you have... )

speculations and unpopular opinions )

This brings me to thinking on how much I've become a gen fan. These days, it's not enough for me to read about two characters in love, I want something more. I want casefiles and adventures and in between that, character moments that mean something. I believe [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 called it Gen/Bob. It's character driven story with a gen plot, it's a romance with a gen plot. It's quite possible that this is why I'm so smitten with Life. Because it has this fascinating characters and then have them solving cases all the while going through personal things. And then, of course, fabulous partnershippery moments.

A few weeks back TV Guide had a poll and placed Charlie Crews in the nerd category. I boggled too. He can be a dork, yes. But a nerd? Did these people even watch the show? Fortunately [livejournal.com profile] firthgal has come to the rescue by showing how badass he can be. Also, how he can be a dork. Plus, another picspam about Charlie letting his hair down, so to speak, with added Dani!

Speaking of Dani, thestar has an article about Life up, featuring Sarah Shahi here .

The article addresses the issue of Sarah's image before joining Life, and all I can say it's about time Sarah's finally being taken seriously. Most of the interviews I read were all annoying and always mentioned her role on L Word which would have been alright if it wasn't obvious it was all for the titillation of their male readership. Even that one televised interview with Carson Daly incensed me so *much*. Sarah was there to promote Life but all he was interested in was that Sarah kissed girls and when Life was finally mentioned it was the last two minutes of the show. Argh.
