Steampunk and friends
Dec. 10th, 2003 11:20 amSo, I have been tinkering around friendster and was pretty much amazed at seeing an old friend from grade school and more astonished to note that she was by two degrees of seperation connected to a good friend from high school. I feel like I'm in that bizarre movie with Will Smith in Seven Degrees of Seperation.
I've been unusually fascinated with steampunk since coming across guidelines on how to submit from www.woulditthatwere.com a victorian/SF magazine. So I stumbled into a yahoo group dedicated to Steampunk and from there I've been intrigued by their descriptions of Steampunk.
Steampunk, they say, is knda like the reverse of Utopia, noir-like future and all that. Set in the victorian times when things are starting to change, when the zepplin got invented and the steam train and well, just the sense of wonder attached to that time period really woke my imagination and so I'm now thinking of writing steampunk.
Mostly though, steampunk reminded me of the old anime classics like Sakura, Steam Detective and the new anime movie Metropolis. And, of course, Gotham City.
