akane thoughts and memes
Dec. 16th, 2003 12:28 amI've been rewatching Ranma 1/2, mostly for research and mostly because its fun and have realized how much of the perception of Akane in the 'net is fanon.
Sure Akane is prone to violent outbursts but she doesn't do it often and mostly she doesn't *just* reacts she thinks first, tries to understand how the other person is feeling and is in fact more than fond of Ranma. There quite a lot of scenes that show Akane staring fondly at Ranma when he's not looking and vice versa. And surprisingly they don't even react when their feelings for each other are brought up only when they are pressured to it and well, if the person speaking is quite adamant. In fact if the two fathers don't interfere they would get together earlier, even Kasumi knows this.
Akane is even a good martial artist and strategist if she isn't too involved or given time to think. She virtually defeated the chess army, whereas Ranma was having a fairly hard time. Another surprise is the realization that Ranma and Akane do work together and work *well*.
Akane's also quite good at sneaking around without Ranma noticing her presence and people often come to her to help solve some 'mysteries'. So all in all I guess the fic I'm trying to write *does* have basis so there.
She still remains my favorite character and firmly believe in the Ranma/Akane pairing.

There's a lot of talk about firefly right now since the DVD's came out,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
gwyn_r has a great review of Firefly here. I agree that Firefly is more a succesor(sp?) show to Buffy than Angel is. It's just the characters and the worlds are so alive and I understand how frustrated Joss is about the cancellation. It's a great story.
I think after Buffy, Mal is a great character and the one I relate to most, though why that is I don't know.
It's too bad that FOX is run by heartless, idiotic bastards. Yes, I am bitter. But just as the Firefly theme says: 'You can't take the sky from me.'
I hope the movie productions will pull through.
