Filipino Holiday
Dec. 31st, 2003 11:36 pmAh New Year's Eve, it's always a fun and noisy event in the Philippines. The sudden piercing sound of and explosion of firecrackers and the smell of gun powder in the air, it's a war zone.
Due to some economic downturns the fire crackers started quite late -- 'round 6 pm, which usually started at 6 am. Their saving for the main event, when at the stroke of midnight --30 minutes from now-- my neighbors all around would set their kwitis and the sawa, this is a real event thing a 10 feet firecracker with five stars strung together, it takes more than 10 minutes for it to finish and by then you'll be deaf.
Then we'd start jumping, hollering and lighting other fire crackers.
Yes, New Year's Eve brings out the crazy people in us, but it's fun and exciting, keeps your blood pumping and you jumping every now and again from a loud pop and crackle. I love it!
When and if I'll leave the Philippines, I'll miss that. In sheer craziness the Philippines beats all --
Good lord, they've started firing all the crackers, I better go out now Happy New Year one and all!:)
