[meme] 30 Days of Fanfic - Day 1
Sep. 17th, 2011 04:21 amI'm trying to get back into the swing of things so I'm going to attempt the fanfic meme even though I've only finished a total of, like five fics.
30 Days of Fanfic Meme
Day 1 – How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
The first fanfic I ever wrote without ever knowing it was fanfic was… a Dragonball Z/Superman crossover and Zenki. I didn't even know how those two started except a friend and I started talking about stories and collaborating and we had this notebook where we took turns writing one chapter each week. We never finished it looking back now it's just very, very cracktastic and filled with action scenes and emo. OMG. The emo.
As for Fandom in general, it really did start when I discovered the internet and realized there were other people out there interested in the same thing! It was a revelation! My interests was shared by more than two people! And they talked about it! Constantly! There were websites and forums dedicated to talking about fandom!
I remember being up all night just reading about what people thought and being intimidated in joining in but also thinking: 'I'm not alone!'.
I started out (by that I mean lurking) in anime fandom, I remember consuming a LOT of Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2/Sailor Moon crossovers. I was fortunate enough to stumble into really quality fanfics. Really quality, epic fanfics. Its one thing I miss about anime fandom they really have epic length fics. There are fewer epic length fics these days. From Ranma, Sailor Moon I moved to Rayearth and Slayers (where I stumbled into a really fantastic epic Original Flavor trilogy by Stefan 'Twoflower' Gagne). I just kept leaping of series after series.
But it was really the Buffy fandom that got me into fandom and I guess from there I just never really left.
