Just came home from seeing The Kung-Fu Kid (I'm sorry, I just can't type Karate Kid when thinking about the movie, my face does this weird scrunchy thing when I do like, well, now.). When I first heard they were going to do a remake of the Karate Kid I was immediately all: Hell, no.

Karate Kid was part of my childhood and I thought they were going to trample all over the movie just like what the Lucas and Spielberg did to Indiana Jones. But then, but then I realized they weren't doing a Karate Kid movie, it just has the title and some beats but it wasn't Karate Kid at all!

And it was set in China!

In a nutshell the verdict is: Awesome.

Jaden Smith is great and Jackie Chan is always great with an added bonus that its strange seeing Jackie Chan be the teacher this time around. I remember the days when I used to watch him when I was a kid on Kung-Fu Sunday specials on RPN 9 and back then he was the one sassing his master!

Also, China is breathtaking.

I keep seeing the urban side of Beijing that I forget how wide and expansive and beautiful it is.

Now I kinda want to learn kung-fu again just like I did when I was a kid! Kung-Fu really makes Karate seem very stiff, Jaden was fantastic and he got the... fluidity of the Kung-Fu motions very much unlike that kid in that Shyamalan movie who studied Karate and aped the Kung-Fu moves and failed.

See, you can make an awesome movie set in China with non-white actors with fantastic Kung-fu action scenes.

*Glares at Shyamalan.*

(Sorry, but my miracle hate for the Movie that Must Not Be Named is endless.)
