Listmaking is addicting
A few days ago I offered to rec a few episodes to help
tearful_eye get into Fringe and I thought I'd share my little handy guide!
There are three things I tell my friends whenever I rec Fringe:
1. Fringe is about Olivia Dunham. I mean, yes, there are Walter (who makes the other half of the show for me), Peter, Astrid, Nina Sharp and Broyles but mostly, it's about Olivia Dunham and her BAMF self.
Olivia is kickass, stoic, sensible (in dress and manner), team leader. In every sense of the word, she's the one who has the insights and the person who moves the action and as we later find, she's at the very center of the ongoing conspiracy.
2. Don't watch the second episode of season 1. Just don't.
3. It took a while for Fringe to find its legs but once it did..! Oh, boooy. /Sam Beckett.
There's something for every sci-fi fan out there (except, I advise you not to think about the science. The skience will only leave you with a headache the size of Manhattan!)
Addendum: Don't watch episode 2 of season 1. I'm really serious about this one.
The first season is divided into arcs and most of the arcs/episodes bleed into each other and this is the best I could figure how this arcs are divided into:
John Scott Arc
John Scott was a very big part of Olivia Dunham's life. One of the things I liked about this arc is that it was very much about Olivia. Olivia, working through her grief and sense of betrayal.
1x06 - The Cure*
1x09 - The Dreamscape
1x13 - The Transformation
*I really think this was the episode where the writers are getting Olivia, not just as a character the writers were putting in a situation and letting her react/act but where the character is getting real definition. Also, there is some important backstory here.
The Mytharc
This is also divided into the Observer and Cortexiphan arcs but... since the two arcs inform the other I decided to put the episodes here.
Personally, while I liked the John Scott arc, I thought that the show really hit its stride once the JS arc was resolved and Olivia becomes more involved with the Conspiracy.
1x04 - The Arrival (Observer arc)
1x07 - In Which We Meet Mr. Jones (Start of the Cortexiphan arc)
1x08 - The Equation
1x10 - Safe (Part 1)
1x11 - Bound (Part 2 or the episode where Olivia seals her BAMF, Made of Iron status.)
1x14 - Ability
1x15 - Inner Child (related to the Observer arc)
1x17 - Bad Dreams
1x18 - Midnight (More of a mythalone* but the episode informs the episode after this.)
1x19 - Road Not Taken
1x20 - There's More than One of Everything.
Stand alones
1x05 - Power Hungry
1x12 - The No Brainer
1x16 - Unleashed
I enjoyed Power Hungry a lot. It was a good case file episode with sympathetic side characters.
*Mythalones - A stand alone story with a lot of mythology added.
There ya go! And if I somehow messed-up the episodes or missed one you can poke me! I like talking about Fringe!

Embedded Lance Reddick interview in the Saturn Awards:
Two things:
1. Lance Reddick in glasses!!!Elevent-y one! And so very different from Broyles (or Lt. Daniels!).
2. He's a fan of Star Trek: Voyager! *g* He is One of Us!
There's also an interview of Anna Torv and she mentions William Gibson! Hee. I love that the cast are such geeks! Most of all, I love how she's defending alt!Olivia. It's true, alt!Olivia isn't evil! She's just operating under the assumption that the other universe is evil!

Castle! I'm watching again! Sort of. This show fell off my radar, one the many casualties while I was mourning Life. I'm watching the show through my local cable and sporadically at that... I think I will be mainlining soon.
The second episode I watched was Tick, Tick, Tick and OMG! What an episode to (sort-of) start with! I forgot how fun this show was! Also, Dana Delany is an awesome guest star!

I hope he does get a story this S3, I've been curious how Broyles was recruited into the Fringe Division.
