OMG. You Guys! There will be a new Avatar series! And the new Avatar is a girl! OMG!

The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the adventures of the Avatar after Aang – a passionate, rebellious, and fearless teenaged girl from the Southern Water Tribe named Korra. With three of the four elements under her belt (Earth, Water, and Fire), Korra seeks to master the final element, Air. Her quest leads her to the epicenter of the modern “Avatar” world, Republic City – a metropolis that is fueled by steampunk technology. It is a virtual melting pot where benders and non-benders from all nations live and thrive. However, Korra discovers that Republic City is plagued by crime as well as a growing anti-bending revolution that threatens to rip it apart. Under the tutelage of Aang’s son, Tenzin, Korra begins her airbending training while dealing with the dangers at large.

This new avatar is not only a girl, but also hot-headed, independent and ready to take on the world.

Things that make me squee
  • Asian Steampunk. Asian. Steampunk. Really do I need to say anything more than that???

  • The new Avatar is a girl!

  • Did you see the picture? Scenery Porn! You know how I am with scenery, people! I *love* it!

  • Independent and hot-headed! Oh, Korra, I love you already!

  • Clearly, Korra will go out there and fight crime! It's in her stance! She'll be the goddamned Batman a superhero!

Things that make me go hmmmm...
  • So, I guess, the end of the war the Nations created the Republic City as a kind of symbol of hope. Maybe it's located in the Earth Kingdom?

  • Is the anti-bending movement caused by the advances in technology?

  • I am full of questions about what the hell happened to Zuko and Azula's mom!

  • What happened to Azula? I had hoped Azula would become Korra's firebending master but, I guess, that's too much to hope for.

  • 70 years? And Korra's a teen? *wibble* Aang died so young! Especially in the Avatar world where people could live up to 200 years! They're gonna make me cry when they reveal how Aang died, aren't they?

I ranted a little about Aang's death over at my journal. I don't like the explanation, but it makes sense.

Hi there :)

This is pretty random, but I was glancing through my f-list on LJ ([livejournal.com profile] subsiding_leaf) and came across your name - I believe you left some really great comments re: Slayers that I unfortunately never answered? (I am so sorry about that, I read them but I often forget to respond.)

I'm on DW now so I thought I'd say hi, seeing as you also have a DW. :)

I'm totally excited about the new Avatar series as well - a heroine in Western animation who is not a princess! I can't find the source right now, but I did hear regarding Aang that the 100 years spent in the ice shortened his lifespan, so I think he probably just died of old age.^^ He would have been over 170 or something if he'd still been alive at this point....

Anyway, thanks for commenting so long ago!
