Who's Bono?

I've noticed in my re-watch of the season premiere. There's been a prevalence of the color yellow in the Other Side, there's something significant about that just like how the color red was a little bit more noticeable from last season.

Aside from the exchange between Mama Dunham and ourLivia I noticed this picture:

Behind Massive Dynamic guy (oh, alright, Brandon) are three panels. The blue panel, the red panel and a yellow panel. That couldn't be a coincedence, is it possible a third alternate universe will make an appearance by season's end? Or would this be the Observer's universe? Whatever it will be, I bet it's going to be another game changer.

Can I just say? Olivia Dunham is the most charming car jacker ever, she's so adorbs Henry's charmed despite hearing Olivia reel off a disturbing amount of information about him. And the look she gives him before she pulls of her jedi mind trick? Really, really adorable. How can you be so charming while threatening Olivia? How?!

Olivia sees the tattoo for the first time and I think this is the first time she realizes the lengths Walternate will go through to convince her she wasn't who she was. She's clinging to her identity so hard.

Olivia is really put through the ringer and after her first breakdown in front of Walternate I'm guessing this would be the first time she allows herself to cry and even then, even alone she closes the door and doesn't let us see.

What I find really curious about this scene is how, when Olivia enters, the lights flicker. It reminds me of the pilot episode where John and Olivia investigate and the light above them flickers and, of course, Olivia's ability to turn off the lights during Ability.

The park scene where she realizes she might not be able to go home and you know she's about to lose it again. Whenever she's distressed and needs to keep it together Olivia's hands come up to cover her face.

I love the shot of the zeppelin's shadow creeping in the park and the gorgeous lingering shot of Olivia looking up at the zeppelin in a kind of wonder.

Fringe 3x02 - The Box

And now we go to the second episode. One thing I really noticed in this episode is how much more a soldier altLivia is than ourLivia...

Olivia wasn't acting like a team leader in the episode. altLivia's constantly in the background and its Broyles and Peter who's interacting and taking point.

Even though ourLivia is only listening to ideas, she's always been front and center and the one calling the shots, about the only time she wasn't was when she was still feeling uncertain and shaky after her injury last season.

It's understandable for altLivia, she's still uncertain about the dynamic in this Fringe Division. In the dynamic she's used to, she wasn't the team leader of Fringe Division, it was Linc. Where ourLivia took to leadership like a fish to water altLivia seemed more tentative and as we see in her leadership role with Newton she's more abrasive, which isn't winning her popularity contests.

altLivia is sure of her cause and her trust in Walternate is strong but I think that trust will be tested once she's really immersed in altLivia's life. AltLivia was a trained soldier, possibly longer in the marines than ourLivia but I don't think she realized signing up for this mission meant a one way ticket to another world and seeing first hand the deaths she would cause by her actions.

That look in her eyes? That's guilt.

I don't think she was prepared for that, seeing that. Intellectually she knows that she would have to kill to fulfill her mission but it is another matter seeing the deaths first hand.

The way the previously repeats the Olivias confrontation and altLivia's assertion that they're nothing alike, I think is significant especially after reading the Writers express their interest about exploring identities and how alike alternates can be.

OLIVIAAAA! I miss ourLivia! I miss her ponytail and the slight frown she always has! And he's talking about Niac! The episode where Olivia says goodbye to Charlie and she gets the note. Oh, Olivia!

If last week was about telling us how altLivia was awesome with the shooting of guns and disguises this week was about highlighting ourLivia's photographic memory. altLivia is all impressed by ourLivia's photographic memory I find myself unaccountably pleased by altLivia's reaction.

I really don't think this was what she thought would happen when she signed up for this. She was a soldier and a law enforcer but she wasn't a cold blooded killer and in a matter of two days she has more innocent blood on her hands than her entire career combine. By the end of this, she'll gain the shadows in her eyes that ourLivia has.

Again, it is really weird for Olivia to just hang back like that. And she's just observing, silent and looking around. There's also a measure of guilt there but altLivia's expecting it now and has guarded against it but still her silence isn't just about her uncertainty.

Also, Anna Torv looks really thin here, is it the way her hair frames the face? She doesn't look that thin in her other scenes.

But, again, you know what's stranger? Why isn't anyone noticing that Olivia isn't being her assertive self???

I shouldn't find this scene that amusing but I do!

I love altLivia coming in to save Peter's life, in whatever universe she has the most perfect timing ever and once again I love how it's a constant thing that if there's a Peter in trouble there's an Olivia to rescue him. Only I think there's a distinct, 'Oh, god, bosses son in danger! Must save!' flavor to altLivia's rescuing of Peter.

Other thoughts

I love more scenes with Astrid and that she's acting as Walter's conscience and confidant. I'm not quite sure how to take Walter getting Massive Dynamice. I'm wary of Walter getting powerful.

Also, poor Nina! What does she get out of this will save for a crappy bell?

And, really, isn't Broyles a little taken aback that Olivia seems to be putting distance between them especially since they've developed a good rapport after Charlie died?

ETA: Oh, man, the ratings! *facepalm* Why do I keep looking? The ratings hurt my soul. This can't be another Life, people! Why aren't more Nielsen people watching Fringe? Don't make me come over there and go all Dunham on your ass!

I'm sure it was intentional -- Olivia does not allow herself to feel fear, in part because when she allows herself to be frightened, things happen. She was able to cross over to the Other Side because she was afraid for Peter. The fire she set as a child. So, yes, I'm sure the flickering light was responding to the fear she was feeling. :)

I don't think Walter wants to get powerful, either.

And Nina...she also got a safety deposit box key, so whatever was in her box is likely to be just as interesting...and if that's Just a bell, I'll eat my hat.
