Fringe: 3x04 - Do Shapeshifters dream of Electric Sheep?

I had an odd reaction to this episode. The episode, as it often is with the show, better than I expected but I still had an odd reaction mostly because of Peter.

Unlike majority of Fandom I really suspect that Peter knows altOlivia isn't ourOlivia. I mean with all his talk about cons and 'transactional' relationships I couldn't help but think Peter is playing altOlivia. Which makes Peter sleeping with altOlivia really disturbing.

I know altOlivia is kind of doing the same thing but it's shown how reluctant Olivia is with going to the next step of the relationship and throughout the episode it felt like Newton and Peter were pressuring Olivia to sleep with Peter and it just really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Before episode 3 and this episode I was onboard with altOlivia/Peter because they don't feel like siblings to me and they seemed hot together but after watching The Plateau and this episode I really am not into it at all anymore.

I really don't like the idea of altOlivia falling for Peter, sure her feelings for him could become complicated but I would like her to remain emotionally loyal to Frank and, honestly, I just couldn't see how altOlivia would think better of Peter after he voluntarily chose the original Universe and is working against their world which is coming to pieces because of our Walter's actions.

And, yes, I continue to have issues with Peter's easy decision to leave his real home, his real mother for the other universe, for ourOlivia.

I was thinking about the reasons why I love original flavor Olivia more than altOlivia is that because I've seen Olivia's journey and her struggle through three seasons whereas, to me, despite the Amber and the Other Side is slowling imploding altOlivia seemed to have lived a charmed life in comparison to ourOlivia. I haven't 'seen' altOlivia's internal life and it would seem up to before this mission altOlivia Dunham always won and that easy life wasn't something that makes me warm up to the character. But this episode altOlivia is realizing how hard it is to infiltrate someone else's life even though she is good at disguises and the person she's impersonating is a version of herself.

It's no wonder in this episode I find myself warming up to altOlivia especially the brief moments when she is alone and she just has to stop and breathe.

[livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl wrote it better in her post here:

She walked in all cocky and sure of herself. She walked out like she was marching to the gallows.

After her talk with Newton it really did seem like altOlivia was walking to the gallows because from here on out she feels like she would have no other choice but to compromise her integrity for the sake of the Mission.

The quote about monsters though, was interesting because it could be said about both sides, for altOlivia it would be to see that the monsters from Over Here aren't really the monsters she thinks they are and for the Fringe Division and especially OurOlivia it would be realizing that people Over There is just the same as the people from her universe.

Watching The Mentalist has made me really nostalgic for Life and I've been watching Life season 1 and it is a fantastic as I remember it being. This show ♥

I'm once again struck how hopeful this show is. So many bad and tragic things happened to Crews and Reese and even to the people around them but still it remains so hopeful in the face of all the tragedy.

And really, that is the heart of the whole series it's not about the quirky crime scenes and this is why most of the season 2 episodes didn't work for me. I loved it when the show made an effort to look real, I loved the police station set because it felt real. Season 2 police station had a sort of... glossy feel to it. The show really worked for me when everything was grounded and not so fantastic.

I will always love the showrunner for giving us an ending that felt emotionally right for the series but I can't forget what a mess the Conspiracy turned out to be especially when Rand & Co., made the Conspiracy so convuluted just because they were holding on to their cards and hoping for a third season.

I liked it better when it was so much simpler. The Bank of LA shootout happened because of greed. Jack Reese was involved with the mess but he grew a conscience and grew even more uncomfortable with the shoot out and possibly took it out on Dani, who he wanted to be perfect and not fall into the same trap he did. Rayborn and the others didn't let go of their share and grew powerful.

Somewhere along the way Tom Seybolt got involved with Rayborn and/or Jack Reese, maybe some of Rayborn's friends used Tom and Charlie's bar to launder money. Things went awry when Seybolt became a little greedier, Rayborn wanted to talk to Seybolt but Jack intervened and sent Hollis instead thinking that Kyle would be a better alternative than Rayborn. Unfortunately, at that time, Kyle was high and things did go awry.

Unfortunately, there was a clear link from Kyle Hollis to Jack Reese and straight to Mickey Rayborn. So Jack would, he would think, have no choice but to protect Kyle. And, that would be it.

See how simple it is? They didn't need to complicate it. They didn't need the convuluted storyline with Roman and it would be in keeping with the theme of the show: People are fallible and even good people stray from the line. They didn't need to whitewash Tom Seybolt's sins. He could still be a good friend, a good person and still stray from the path especially if he needed the money. Charlie could still know his friend but not know all of him and that as a kid, Charlie wasn't a perfect barometer of people.

Jack Reese would still be involved in the storyline, be interesting and gain layers while still remaining a bastard to Dani and Charlie and a good man to Rachel Seybolt. Mickey Rayborn can still be the smug bastard that he is. Rayborn and Jack Reese could have cut a deal with Roman maybe because he could have helped them move the money but at that time Roman could have been a low level enforcer that neither Rayborn or Jack Reese ever thought would become the Boss of the Russian Mafiya.

Rewatching The Fallen Woman you cannot make me believe Roman Nevikof was all about Charlie Crews when from the start he was always fascinated with Dani Reese and her father.

I liked that Reese had an antagonist that wasn't directly connected to Charlie Crews, that it wasn't always just about Charlie Crews. I was very irritated when they made Roman Nevikof All About Charlie Crews.

Speaking of Charlie, he has such a wellspring of anger just hiding beneath the surface of his Zen. He's just so angry and yet he is also wants to be a good man and he is not often successful in hiding his anger. He lucked out with Reese as a partner. Even if she didn't like him or uncertain about him she was very protective of him right from the start and I love seeing them develop into the fantastic partners they become into the series.

Also, the Knife scenes and how it plays out in the season? Still very fantastic.

Back to The Mentalist... I really am over Patrick Jane. In the realm of quirky partners with kickass cop partners. Jane ranks fifth in likability factor for me, he is sunshine and curls but he is also very much a bastard just the way he handles interviews with mourning people turns me off. Patrick Jane can do anything he wants and he'll still win the day without any repurcussions but brief slaps to the wrists and I feel like he has such contempt for people (save for a few around him... and sometimes, not even then) that it's hard for me to relate to his Manpain.

On the other hand, there's Richard Castle who is kind of a bastard too but who has such genuine joy and respect for the women around him that I can't really hold a grudge against him.

I'll try to keep watching The Mentalist but if I don't see any real consequences to his actions I don't think I can stick around to watch the Patrick Jane show despite how much I adore Lisbon and Cho.

I haven't seen a whole episode of Glee since the pilot, I've only looked at the Music Vids but I've now seen some season 2 episodes and came away with this impressions:

a) Except for Mike Chang, John Stamos' character and New Blond Kid I want to punch almost all the male characters in the show particularly Will and Finn.

b) I really like the idea of Rachel and Kurt as buddies.

c) I like Quinn, I love Santana's snark and wish that Mercedes and Santana really do become Top Bitches of the School.

d) Wow. Heather Morris is a fantastic dancer!

e) Yep, I still want to punch Will.
