First: I shouldn't have watched this before I ate lunch.
Hannibal and I was surprised at how much I liked it. Mostly, I was impressed at Hugh Dancy. I really liked that Dancy was squirrelly and that he looked genuinely disturbed interacting with people.
I also really, really liked the production values in this show, it felt like a movie when I was watching it and I really liked Fishburne in this too.
Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal was also a surprise. I've always thought Sir Anthony Perkins as a very refined man but Mikkelsen seems to be a more refined version of Lecter, if that can be believed. And colder too.
I'm curious how they're going to make a series out of 'The Red Dragon' (I'll have to re-read the book) but this is also a show that's not for the faint of heart. It's a very visual show. I can barely stand watching Bones' autopsy scenes... So a show about a cannibalistic serial killer is going to be an interesting experience for me. I think I'll be leaving the room quite often if they have more scenes of Lecter chopping up and preparing human organs as food.
