Catching up!
May. 21st, 2013 11:56 pmJust got back from an awesome holiday with my family! So I'm currently playing catch up with my shows!
So, briefly:
Once Upon a Time
I... was. I was really underwhelmed. There comes a time when showrunners will disappoint and well, this came early in the show. The trouble they always had about pacing reared its head. I loved, loved beyond all telling Cora's storyline but as things shaped out I now see that they shouldn't have ended the storyline so soon since they seemed to have floundered in the second half of the arc without her.
Owen and Tamara's story wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped and Snow's story is diminished and might continue playing out in the next few seasons but I'm not sure if I'll continue watching.
Hook doesn't hold my interest in any way and I wasn't really sure about the Town Leadership suddenly leaving without even a by your leave. Belle leading could be interesting but man, I'm so disappointed in her storyline I don't even how words.
In the end, the writers are telling a story I'm currently not interested in...
I did love Bandit!Snow saving and taking care of Regina and my perceived continued parallel between Cora and Snow.
Star Trek: Into Darkness
Verdict: Undwerwhelmed.
Exact and opposite reaction to what I felt during the first movie. There were things I loved: Uhura doing things. Spock clearly being the better captain. Bones continually trying to keep Kirk healthy against his will.
Things I did not care for: Kirk's manpain and how the universe always conspire to make him right even though he is clearly in the wrong.
Ending in a high note with:
Elementary:
Honestly, in the whole of this list *this* was the only one that made me happy in every single thing they do. It's not perfect but its close. I love how they inverted every trope on its head. I love that The Woman/Moriarity are one and same as some people (including me) suspected. The dolphin squee when it was confirmed? Awesome.
I have no doubt Moriarity will return and that when she does she would be as equally fascinated and interested in Watson as she is with Holmes. Also, I fully believed that some parts of Irene are things Moriarity share because people can't lie convincingly without an echo of truth in them.
And JOAN. JOAN OH JOAN . This show shines so bright with Joan. I'm just very much a wash in feeeelings. So happy I started watching this show!

Date: 2013-05-21 11:45 pm (UTC)I've read a couple reviews saying this movie was underwhelming. I think this was the final push I needed to decide that no, I really don't want to see it. It's a shame, because I enjoyed the first one so much. But I'm fed up with whitewashing, and vindicating the white, male hero at every turn.
I'm excited for the Elementary finale! I've been tempted to download the rest of the season. But I've also enjoyed watching the show as it airs with my family. So, I've decided I'll be patient and do that instead. Aus is pretty slow with airing overseas TV shows!

Date: 2013-05-22 10:33 am (UTC)I really did want to enjoy this movie but it just left me cold and it didn't *feel* like the Trek I've come to expect. It felt like a summer blockbuster movie and not like a Trek movie.
I can't wait for you to watch the Elementary finale! :D
