I will say one thing about IM3, watching this after nu!trek2 was such a fantastic way to get over my disappointment. I enjoyed IM3 so so much more because of it.
The first thing I really loved was how IM3 treated what seemed like a casting problem of Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin into such a fantastic subversion... The very thing that really niggled and annoyed me in he nu!trek movie was turned on its head!
And how the whole movie treated Pepper and Maya felt a hundred times better than how nu!trek was about Doctor Marcus and Nurse Chapel.
This movie had exactly what I wanted. Exactly. It had Tony growing exponentially and remembering the things I loved about the first movie and improving on it, including Tony and Pepper's relationship. But I also enjoy that everyone in Tony's circle was able to do a lot of their own Crowning Moments of Awesome.
Including Pepper. Oh Pepper, Pepper the first MCU Awesome Lady I loved her when she was all competent and intelligent badass but I absolutely adored her as Extremis!Pepper! I don't think Tony cured away the Extremis, I think it just made the Extremis in Pepper more stable.
Rhodey too, being awesome in and out of the suit, now I have a desperate *need* for Rhodey and Steve to have a sit down and talk! Also, where was Steve and SHIElD with the president on the line I kept expecting him to pop by! But Bruce is good too! Bruuuuce my other darling boy! I love how Tony goes on and on and Bruce is just all... "Whyyy."
And Happy! And his Downton Abbeying and detective work!
I should also mention I loved Tony's PTSD because I felt like its something that hasn't healed from the first movie only made more visible now. I love how RDJ plays it... And its made him a lot more relatable and human. It's something terrible but it's also something that anchored him. (OMG did I mention Yinsen? because omg that gave me feels.)
Basically everything about the movie made me sooo happy. An action movie with actual character development and a group of people who actually cared for each other!
A lot more smarter people than I have discussed about Killian and Trevor as being two sides of Tony and put it much better context than I, I'll have to provide links later. Now I'm going to bask!

But I agree that both she and Pepper were real people, who had their own agenda. And this time, no slut-shaming, even! Iron Man franchise, you have grown. (I'm still not over that "Taking out the trash" line from Pepper, which is why I don't and won't love her as a character, though I like her just fine now.)

I agree about Maya and was sad at how her story ended but man, the way they wrote in Pepper and Maya and that they were able to *talk* and interact. That was it was such a difference from nu!Trek2, heck even from IM1.
I really didn't like that Christine Everheart was put down constantly when I thought she was fantastic. That was also something that marred Pepper bit for me, which I usually try to forget but I'm so glad they rectified the error here.
