I've been thinking about Beth Childs lately. Everything in Orphan Black happened because Beth jumped to her death in front of Sarah. Beth made sure Sarah saw her death.

She left no suicide note, no indication that she would be killing herself.

But she jumped and she made sure Sarah saw her.

I wonder how long Beth knew about Sarah and why, Sarah, out of all the clones. Beth and Sarah seem to be complete opposites, Beth was a cop, Sarah was a small time hustler but Sarah stepped into Beth's shoes and learned more about Beth.

What did Beth learn about Sarah? Did she choose Sarah? Did she want Sarah to stir shit up?

I wonder how'd they get along if Beth was still alive. There would be friction, more than what Alison had with Sarah. But maybe, in the end, a more fundamental understanding of each other?

Maybe if Beth were still alive, she'd be less lonely because there was one person who wouldn't view her as an authority figure, one person who she didn't need to be strong for because Sarah is already strong for herself.

Maybe, just like he did with the other clones, Felix would welcome Beth in a grudging way. Mrs. S too, would welcome Beth. I'm just thinking about it now and how sad it is that Beth never got the chance to know Sarah's family and be welcomed into it.

"But she jumped and she made sure Sarah saw her."

Exactly. Why that specific platform, at that specific time if she didn't know that she would somehow meet up with Sarah?

And from what we know of Beth - poor Beth seemed to have become overwhelmed by everything that was going on and happening - finding out that she is who she is and all the others, the shooting of Maggie Chen, the inquiry, her relationship w/ Paul, and from what we find out - she was on a shit load of prescription medications.

So, I suspect that all that just became a little too overwhelming for her and maybe wanted someone else to take up the torch and chose Sarah because she did find out something that told her that Sarah could be the one to finish this thing.

And let's not forget that according to what Leeky told Cosima, there is a tendency for mental unbalance within their genetic make-up. Look at what Alison did - it had been building throughout the season, but man ...

This is fascinating. I had assumed it was an almighty big coincidence. The idea that Beth deliberately sought out Sarah opens up whole new avenues of plot possibilities.

I really feel for Beth because she was so isolated. To the point where she felt she couldn't even confide in the other clones. She had these terrible and correct suspicions of Paul, she had shot Maggie Chen to protect them, but she was too scared and too depressed to tell Cosima and Alison. She was a very active, decisive character.

And you're absolutely right that Sarah's family, unconventional though it is, was very welcoming to Alison and Cosima. And would likely have nurtured Beth if she'd lived. It's one of the little ironies of the show that Sarah, who defines herself as an orphan with no family, actually has the strongest family ties of any of the clones so far.
