non-spoiler reaction:
- This is a stronger movie than the force awakens, and rogue one. it also felt like a Star Wars. it didn’t feel like it was copying off the original trilogy but extending it and becoming better.
- It made me miss Carrie Fisher so much. So much.
- IMO Rian Johnson is a far superior writer-director than JJ Abrams and Joss Whedon because it had a lot to do with a huge cast but I never felt it was too bloated or busy.
LEIA HAS THE FORCE GUYS, BEAT THAT FAKE STAR WARS ‘FANS’. Powerful and reactive since its not something she consciously chose not to train in. And guys, my heart. I can’t take Leia losing one more person she loves. I just can’t. And there was so much imagery in this movie about both Leia and Luke mirroring Anakin.
FINN GUYS FINNNNN. His one constant focus was Rey. I loved Rose but... um, I still prefer Finn/Rey. He gets to have an epic fight with Plasma and he even Ahsoka Tano’s her! Rebel scum indeed.
I HOPE FINN GUTS BENICIO DEL TORO’S CHARACTER LIKE A FISH NEXT MOVIE.
POE. I LOVE YOU BUDDY BUT YOU WERE A TERRIBLE LEADER. IT TOOK YOU A LONG TIME TO LEARN YOUR LESSON. I STILL LOVE YOU THOUGH. BUT BUDDY, YOU SHOULD’VE LISTENED TO YOUR COMMANDERS.
Rey, oh Rey. I think... I kind of like Rey not being part of the Skywalker line, especially since it seems like both sides from Emo Failure to Luke and Failure Yoda, who i more useful dead than he was in the OT. A fresh reboot, just like they did in Legend of Korra, so to avoid repeating the failures of the past.
Still, I think Rey seeing herself is an answer too-- I feel its another Anakin situation, Rey was born of the Force.
Also, another possibility-- she is of the Kenobi bloodline. The way Obi-Wan went his way through The Clone Wars, flirting his way through the galaxy, he’s bound to have at least one descendant.
Emo Failure-- I don’t much care about him. He has the worse faults of Anakin without any redeeming quality. HE DOUBLES AND TRIPLES DOWN ON HIS MISTAKES, he is given every opportunity to turn back but he only triples down on his bullheadedness.
And then there is Luke, oh Luke. Broken hearted and broken down by believing his own press and having his knee jerk fear and reaction make thing 10x worse. His discussion with Leia made me so sad but his ‘last stand’ was epic, and he made use of his legendary status to restart the spark of the rebellion.
I knew, I just knew they were going to ghost him the moment I saw his dark beard. Also that meant that the cape floating away was still Luke projecting that detail and that’s just Skywalker extra.
But god, poor Leia. I so want the third movie about her so badly :-( AND FOR HER NOT TO DIE IN THE THIRD MOVIE. I WANT HER TO LIVE ON IN THE STAR WARS UNIVERSE.

Date: 2017-12-16 11:42 pm (UTC)I want that third Leia film too! But it's not to be. And I'm a bit scared on what J.J. Abrams ('Member Lost? Good gods.) might do that she's gone. I have a theory about Rey but without Leia they can't do it.
I don't mind that Rey just happened to have Force. That's okay. But I don't think that her people would just 'sell' her away. That was Emo Boy's take on it. She saw him differently. I take their 'visions' with grains of salt.
Emo Boy wasn't that bad. I understood him. He had a teacher who made a crucial mistake. I used to teach. I never thought of killing them, but if I did, I wouldn't go and stand over them with a light saber lit and drawn. And damn, that's his uncle! Gene-wise Emo could have gone a lot of ways. But believing your uncle tried to off you as a boy because you were demon seed didn't help matters AT ALL.
And while we could said Luke has a bad moment there, he had the same reaction when Rey went for the darkness. Freaked out. It's natural to be curious. He came through in the end, though.
And I realized today that was the last time C3P0 will say, "Master Luke?" in that questioning voice. It's time, but it really was the last time we'll hear him say it. Sigh.
