grimorieI liked it! I liked that this was a story trying to convince Twelve to regenerate and not die and that we got to see Bill Potts again except I don’t think Twelve really bought Bill survived and that Heather did come to rescue her.
But we still had Bill!
And man, I wish Bill got to travel with Thirteen.
This new One though… I can’t be sure if the actor really got One right? I’ve only seen him a few times so I’ll let the Classic fans say if he did or didn’t.
Twelve being stumped that something from the Distant Future is actually… not evil. I love that he doesn’t know what to do with that. And I was so amused at how much Twelve was dying and embarrassed at all the sexist things One kept saying and begging him to: “Please, please stop saying that.”
The reveal for the Captain was… I think not much of a reveal since its telegraphed from the start IMO but the resolution to the problem was heartwarming and… kind.
I love that Twelve’s reason for staying who he is, and dying as who he is, is a deeper reason than Ten’s. Twelve has lost so many things and grown through it that in his final days he’s actually settled into the life he had. The Doctor’s life is a grind, or as the Doctor called it, a treadmill. Going through it again and again, and again so the Doctor asking if he couldn’t just rest, have peace was heartbreaking.
But when he finally decides to let go, to give another lifetime ago, he decides to give his next life, a few key advice.
I love that the very last act of Twelve is kindness, and that Twelve’s longwinded advice to Thirteen starts with ‘Never be cruel or cowardly’ and ends with ‘be kind’.
Really though, the Doctor’s next regeneration (a decade from now!) has to be somewhere else, ‘cause the regeneration keeps destroying the TARDIS and it keeps freaking the TARDIS out!
All in all, a good episode!
(BTW, the TARDIS/BAD WOLF theme music is back! And I ended up loving Twelve and his send-off so much more as compared to Ten, who I just wanted it to *end* already!)
