I finally finished reading N.K. Jemisin’s The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. It’s so fascinating, I love the worldbuilding, the politics even if Jemisin mentioned recently that her Inheritance Trilogy isn’t really that concerned with the political maneuverings.

I felt there was enough for me to be engaged and she moved things along at the right time.

Also, it has a love story(ies) that would be considered controversial on tumblr.

It’s a rich book, I always loved stories where a mortal moves into godhood and becomes a major player that reshapes the world. I quickly moved on to the second book, The Broken Kingdom there’s a significant time jump, I’m just a few chapters in and it’s interesting to see how different the world is now because of the events in The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms and how a new PoV character into these events will change the perspective on ongoing events.

I was led to believe these books are purely gen fantasy books but they’re not just that they’re also romance stories too! A romance stories with gods and demons, and how it plays out to have a romance with gods and between gods.

I’m excited to read more!

I wish I could be more analytical about the book but I just really genuinely enjoyed it, and it's a different thing but it was a palate cleanser from Game of Thrones.

I started reading this book but never finished. I think I just... slipped away from being a reader who wants straight-up high fantasy--something I used to adore. (I've been reading a lot of books where the fantasy element intersects with a version of our earth.)

Anyway, I need to check if Jemisin has written any other books that might interest me.
