Guys.
Killjoys is so good.
Hanna Kamen John is so good. Dutch and Johnny’s relationship whether you view it as romantic or platonic is fantastic. I love how this show juggles characters, how it understands characters and their relationships with each other.
I honestly don’t think I’ve watched a show that handles character dynamics as deft as Killjoys does.
Also, they keep putting the team on the backfoot and they keep punching up and seeing them win, not easily, not without cost but also bloody brilliantly. They won the prison ship back, they even earned the respect of the warden. And let me tell y’all, I love how the writers listen to our issues. One of the issues I’ve always had is how a woman of color in authority dies but this season? Reverses that and keeps her in power, and Dutch has to negotiate with the warden, who is a good person but very much a stickler to the rules.
I love that Johnny and Dutch finally talked and the reason for Johnny’s distance is more complex than Johnny pining his life with Dutch. No, he was pining for the life; the domesticity of it all and something he thinks Dutch would want. He wants to keep what they have now and always but he was afraid he’d lose Dutch by wanting to settle down.
Then there’s Aneela and Kendry, and Aneela is so off-balanced in this world of Humans, and Kendry standing up for herself and realizing its exactly what Aneela wanted. Aneela pushing Kendry away was similar, in a snapshot to why Johnny and Dutch have been awkward: She was afraid she’d lost Kendry to her Humanity.
But Kendry just reaffirmed that she’s still Kendry and I just loved it so much, these two powerful women who love each other so much as themselves.
I think Khlyen reacting the way he did when he thought Dutch had died confirmed he’s just a Human now -- is this something we knew before and I forgot?
Poor Fancy, he just got his memories back and now he got caught again.

Date: 2019-08-25 01:18 am (UTC)I'm very glad Dutch and Johnny's conflict was resolved the was it was.
I loved this (especially since I liked the actress in Wynonna Earp and was very irritated when her initial character got killed off fairly quickly)
I adore Aneela and Kendry's relationship!
I'm not sure if it was mentioned outright, but I think his blood was red in 5.01?

Oh! No wonder she looked familiar! I really like her and I am so excited Dutch has to negotiate with the Warden, it's more interesting than outright antagonism!
I need to rewatch the first episode to see the color of Khlyen's blood, I'm so used to Khlyen as a Hullen and what does it mean that Aneela is *still* Hullen?
