[overdue reactions] Doctor Who - The Chase

I'm jumping all over the place, I know, unfortunately, I can only watch what's available to me. Also, er, I couldn't get past the Web Planet episodes and landed on The Chase. I've always been curious about Ian and Barbara's exit in context.

I didn't know The Chase was the same story where Steven Taylor would start out as a companion!

I've already seen The Meddling Monk so it was fun to get context with how he started.

The Doctor was terrible at goodbyes right from the start but I love that he softened and showed he would miss Barbara and Ian. I love that we got to see them happily going around London.

It's honestly so refreshing after all the epic tragedies of a Companion Leaving episode.

I know! Isn't that the loveliest? Of course I teared up anyway, but it's one of my favourite companion departures ever, because it's so cheerful while at the same time emotional and admitting that beloved characters are leaving and the Doctor will miss them too (whether he admits it or not).

It really was a lovely departure and I hope to see these kinds of departures again, more of a celebration than tragedy!

Yes, Ian and Barbara's leaving is really lovely! I have a soft spot for the ridiculousness of The Chase, too. The Web Planet is all right in patches, but it definitely needs a condensed version! (IMO anyway.)

It really was ridiculous and fun! Especially the hilarity of the haunted house monsters defeating the daleks!
