Reactions behind the cut

Wow. That was incredibly disappointing.
Sure I was expecting a typical hollywood twist to the Iliad but I didn't expect them to totally revamp the key points in the Iliad.

Like, for example, killing Menelaus at the second day of the war. It just made me grimace, Menelaus doesn't die he gets back Helen, is what!

But putting my spotty Greek lit aside, judging Troy by its own merits, it had some stellar acting (from Peter O' Toole, Eric Bana, Saffron Burrows, Rose Byrne and Sean Bean) and some really cardboard acting (from Diane Kruger).

I've also recently watched Helen of Troy, the 2003 TV movie and I think having viewed this first Troy suffered.

While Helen of Troy took some liberties it remained true to the Iliad, even infusing some character into Paris.

Agammemnon wasn't just the token villain in Helen of Troy. He was portrayed as a man of great ambition going through any lengths to unify Greece under his flag, even if it meant killing the daughter he loved.

Troy didn't even show Iphegenia's (sp?) sacrifice!

So. Yeah. I'm disappointed.
