Weighing in on Buffy Season 8 comic

Boy, there are a lot of polarizing reactions about the upcoming Buffy comic, most stemming from either a) Lingering bitterness over Season 7 b) Buffy's outfit and c) the Immortal spoiler.
For myself, I can't help but be excited I've always been a Buffy fan, the character that is and I've missed her too much and just want to see how my girl is doing in the new world she helped create.
I don't think its far that she'd adapt the slayers into a formidable fighting force, after all the demons threat are worldwide and since the Council is out of commission there is no international body out to stop the demonic threats, its only logical that Buffy would try to go slaying worldwide.
Although I hoped she took at least months off to regain her equilibrium, I was also hoping she'd go back to college because she really did seem to be enjoying studying (finally!) especially history.
Buffy might still not like guns and I'm still quite sure she prefers sharp shiny swords than guns but I'm also glad they're moving away from just relying on medieval weaponry. Swords are well and good for up close fighting but its better if they also start using projectile weapons that can deliver maximum damage from afar.
I mean, that's what set Buffy apart from the first go, her willingness to use both magic and technology, mixing and matching so to speak.
Plus, I am really glad they seem to be moving into Ultraviolet style of slaying in other words, using logic too.
They have funding to do it now.
As for combat wear, I have no qualms on Buffy wearing one, since she is practical (sometimes) about patrolling (*some*times). There were episodes when she wore black clothes, boots and jeans (though still stylish of course). So, its no stretch for my imagination that she'll also adapt the combat clothes thing on a mission. But, damn, couldn't the artist draw better combat gear than that? Something more on a Farscape style? Sexy and practical at the same time? And leather.
The Immortal thing I have no qualms with that too. It was clear from the start of The Girl in Question that it was set in the point of view of Angel and Spike and their perception on Buffy. Plus, it was Andrew who was telling them these things. Andrew. Mr. Storyteller.
Frankly, I think any preconceptions we have on the upcoming season 8 comic should be checked on the door since we've only seen the first five pages. We're reacting to the beginning of the first few seconds of a larger arc of the story.
I've long since decided that I'm going in with an open mind -- I used to have a kneejerk reaction to everything i.e. Angel leaving Buffy? No! Kate putting the moves on Angel? Hands off, Bitch! Cordelia and Angel? --okay, I still have issues with that-- Connor? WTF?
In all instances I was proven wrong and I end up loving the overall story rather than the individual things that keep happening.
Its best for me if I just wait and see and enjoy what Joss has in store because in the end, I'm just glad my girl Buffy is still alive and kicking and I choose to think that Joss isn't doing it *just* for the money but also because he missed writing about Buffy.
Then again, I've always given Joss slack. I trust him enough for that, after all he's done fantastic work for Astonishing X-Men and Fray, I'm just thankful the Buffyverse is still spinning, still going.
