I love it! it was a fun straightforward story and as I suspected, I really liked Martha. I liked her because she isn't Rose. I mean, the difference between the two characters is marked but they are similar in a way too. I loved Martha's family from the start and, that again, they are not a re-thread of the Tyler family.
Different class, I think? And her mother seems to be a very together professional woman and this time it's Martha's father who's a flake.
There were moments where I still missed Rose, particularly the part where Ten was letting Mrs. Finnegan drink his blood. I had this very image of Rose appearing out of nowhere with an extinguisher letting out a battle cry and beaning Finnegan on the head. But I'm sure Martha's well on her way to doing that.
I love that she's smart and together and obviously loves the wonders of it all (just like Rose). It also helped that she's older than Rose, I'm sure Rose would be as together as Martha was if Nine had met her a little older.
Also? I loved the young doctor who was trying to be a diplomat with the Juudon (sp?).
And the mentions or hints of Rose (re: Martha inquiring about a partner) and the way Ten just moves on from the subject. Plus, I liked he finally learned his lesson and starts mentioning other companions to Martha.
Over all, good start!
Oh, plus, I love the last episode titles of S3 (The Sound of Drums/ Last of the Time Lords).
I love the whole storyline of s3 why, why, why didn't they have these special effects and sort of storyline in season 2?
If RTD decides to make the Doctor Who movie, I hope Rose makes a cameo -- where she's living a very fantastic life!
