[Picspam] Lois Lane, accidentally in love

I'm on a Smallville binge right now since I've been home sick and I've fallen in love with the series all over again. Also re-watching has reinforced my love for Lois Lane.
Before I fell in love with Buffy, Veronica and Rose, Lois Lane was my very first role model.
I started watching Superman when I was, I think, around six and I was so entranced by the whole Superman mythos but most of all I was taken with the idea of Lois Lane. Tough as nails reporter, who isn't perfect -- she's cynical, jaded, smokes and can't spell to save her life but she's competitive and dogged and willing to put herself in danger to get the story and she can kick butt with the best of them. Also, she's a dork.
Only a dork can come up with the 'Can you read my mind' monologue, after all. :)
I'm not an avid reader of the Superman comics but I've read enough to know the some details of the mythos. But I've always seen it through Lois's point of view. I loved almost all the Lois Lanes across the decade (although I'm lukewarm towards Bosworth's Lois), heck one of the reasons why I liked Chloe so much was because she was proto-Lois. Eventually, I gave-up on the series, despite my liking Lex and Chloe.
Lois and Clark was my first ever OTP. Actually, Lois and Clark is my OTP to end all OTPs. They're the one couple I can't ever accept not being together. Buffy and Angel can go their separate ways, the Doctor and Rose being torn apart I'm also okay with that (well, not so much 'okay' but... you know what I mean) but Lois and Clark? No way. No how, not going to happen in whatever galaxy or universe.
Even though I love Richard White in Superman Returns I just can't accept Lois and Clark being permanently separated.
When I discovered that Smallville will be bringing in Lois Lane I was very skeptical, I was one of those people who firmly believed that Clark should only meet Lois once he starts working for the Daily Planet. Eventually my love for Lois couldn't keep me away, I had to know if they got my Lois right and so I started watching Crusade and was I ever glad I did!
There was never a false moment, from the cigarette patch, to her bullheadded attitude and her disregard for Smallville's private spaces. But it was Lois confrontation with Lionel that sold me on Erica Durance's Lois. I think that was the first time I ever saw someone rattle Lionel, its not a wonder Lionel keeps a weather eye on Lois. She might not have found her calling yet but all the characteristics of the iconic Lois Lane is in ED's Lois.
I think its also significant that they've met through her car crashing through the fields, in Smallville it appears that those Clark meet via car accidents play an important role in his future: Lex Luthor, Perry White and Lois Lane. The only person that's part of his future he didn't meet through a vehicular accident is Jimmy Olsen.
I also love how her relationship with Clark started out. I love how she doesn't think he's all that special or complicated, one of the things that irritated me in the first few seasons was Lex and Lana's persistent 'tell me everything about you' routine. For Lois, Clark Kent is just the weird farm boy she found naked in the cornfields and, refreshingly, she doesn't want anything from him.
In fact all of Clark's attempts to protect her are rebuffed and she's consistent in asserting that she could protect herself.
Meeting Clark the way she did has placed him firmly on the 'okay guy but a little strange' category but anytime she unknowingly witnesses Clark displays his abilities she becomes a little taken with him.
Crusade
Crusade is the first example of this, Lois tries to stop an amnesiac!Clark from leaving the ER but Clark easily picks up Lois and puts her out of the way.

Lois goes through a range of emotions from surprised, to disbelief, puzzled and finally that little 'huh' smile.
Blank
The next instance, is in Blank, Lois and the sheriff accidentally witness Clark using his strength to keep the pillars from falling.

Lois is shocked and amazed at the show of strength before her memory gets erased. But its in season six where they showcase on how Lois will really react to Clark's show of ability.
Hydro

Hydro continues the trend of foreshadowing Lois's attitude towards Superman/Clark, when she begins to suspect that Oliver is the Green Arrow, Lois formulates a plan to catch Oliver red handed by staging a fake mugging. Unfortunately, real thugs do get in the way and while Jimmy and Lois are holding their own, they're soon overpowered until Clark using the Green Arrow's disguise comes to the rescue. Lois witnesses Clark use his abilities again and this time instead of shock, she is smitten.

Up to that point Lois was obsessed in unmasking Green Arrow's identity but once she suspects the Green Arrow is Oliver Lois starts having doubts and even backtracks on her stance on the Green Arrow, Lois even goes far as saying if she discovered that Oliver was an alien from Mars, she'd find a way to make it endearing. Another foreshadowing to Lois' interactions with Superman.
Once Lois sees Green Arrow (Clark) in action, Lois changes her mind and decides there and then to keep Oliver's secret.
Of course, I had to include the kiss because this is the first Lois/Clark kiss and I love the reactions to that kiss, especially Clark's. You can paint a picture with his expression, we don't even need to hear what Clark thought, his expression is enough.
There's a minor moment that tickled the Superman fan in me, its the way Clark stretched out his hand to pull Lois up to her feet. Short scene but that's very Superman.
Crimson
This episode is full of foreshadowy and Clark/Lois goodness! I love that Lois finds Clark driving the tractor as adorable but under the effects of the red Kryptonite this isn't enough for Clark, he doesn't like being shoe horned as just a farm boy. Clark brings Lois to the roof of the Daily Planet and begins to reveal that there's more to him than meets the eye.

This whole sequence is the motherlode, Clark standing on the ledge, testing the air and looking out at Metropolis is so Superman-like.

But its Lois's expression that really nailed it for me. The moment they're soaring (okay, jumping) through the air, Lois is smitten. It's amazement, wonder and joy and if she wasn't already in love with Clark, this would be the moment she'd fall helplessly in love with him. She isn't afraid of his powers, in fact she's very drawn to it.
All the elements for Lois to fall in love with Clark/Superman is already in place, all she needs now is for Superman to swoop in.
