On to the second part of Bizarro.

Lois got a lot of flack for this one. I understand why but I can't condemn Lois for it, it's clear some time has passed since the hospital scene and Lois breaking into the Luthor Mansion. She had time to steady herself and perhaps get a good cry in. As it's been stated before in Crusade she doesn't like crying in front of people. I don't think it would be far fetched that on the way to the Luthor mansion she broke down and made it to the Talon just in time.

Also, Lois has the measure of Lex, or at least a part of his personality. Lex has little patience with people challenging him, especially if they don't look like they can challenge him. No one got anywhere by striding into the mansion hysterical and looking like hell (it would work if said person was Clark but then they have a history). She won't let Lex have that advantage over her.

She knows Lex doesn't think much of her and going in as she was would just put more fuel to Lex's fire.

And here comes Bizarro!Clark. So, wait, does this mean we'll also get a Bizarro!Lois?

Lois isn't at all amused with Clark's antics and you can see she's off balanced by how confident Clark is here. She's used to getting the last word in. Also you can see that Lois thinks Clark drank the crazy kool aid.

Up until he grabs her ass -- and God, her reaction will never not be funny!

After Lois slaps Clark, she watches him with a concerned expression because Clark was weird but he was never that weird. I read an interview with Erica Durance regarding this particular scene. She says something about Lois trying to rationalize why Clark was acting that way and put it out of her mind. I can see how that'd work in this case.

Lois: What the hell is up with Smallville?

Interestingly enough it does seem like the mansion was recently abandoned, probably the work of Lex's proto-Mercy assistant?

Of course I can't ignore the pretty that is Clark Kent. I always love it when the show decides to go iconic on us and this scene where Clark realizes that the sun really does gives him not only strength but the ability to regenerate was spectacular.

I also love the Martian Manhunter, finally a proper ally for Clark to look up to. I like that he isn't too preachy and knows and accepts that humanity is one of Clark's greatest strength.

Another beautiful Clark-Sun moment. Another thing that I love is when the show allows Clark to enjoy his powers. Another iconic moment right here and I love the joy Clark has at this moment.

Oh, this scene...

This is when Clark finally allows himself to feel his grief for Lana but he's not limiting it to just feeling her grief. It's telling that he is thinking about the consequences of letting his grief overcome him and shares his thoughts with Chloe. Loving is hard and hate is so clean.

I had a moment of deja vu because of that statement, it reminded me of Angel, only in his case it is evil which is 'clear and pure' because there were no moral gray areas. Clark then offers that he can listen to Chloe when she decides to talk. I like it that now it is Chloe who is skittish about her powers.

As Al and Miles were so often fond of saying, this season is about reversals and we can clearly see that here Clark and Chloe has taken up different sides of the issue. Now, Clark is all about the truth and Chloe is all about hiding it.

One of the reasons I love this scene is because Clark's weird attitude has clearly been in Lois' mind. But I think one of the things I love about this scene is... in a way, it paralleled with Lois comforting an enraged and grieving Clark in Pariah. I don't know why but I think it's significant that Lois seemed to always be there when Clark loses someone he loves. She's always the first one to offer comfort even if she's prickly to him at other times, it doesn't stop her from hugging Clark.

I also noticed that people hardly hug Clark.

I think my only gripe here is with Lois's hair. Sometimes I don't know what the stylists are thinking -- speaking of hair, ED is really a brunette but what is up with coloring her hair blond?

In caps 5 - 8, Clark is touched by Lois's concern and even leans in to accept her comfort, as if that moment he briefly allows himself to let go, just a little. But this is Lois so being too sappy isn't in her blood and ends her heartfelt condolence with a warning that's supremely Lois.

On the whole the premiere surprised me. I really didn't expect to enjoy this episode, especially with the way the season 6 finale ended. It was a strong outing and chock full of iconic moments.
